Capo

Capo is used to shifting chords for various reason.Either you are trying to change the pitch or you are not comfort with bar-chords which also depends on various aspects. So let's discuss !

1.***************

Let you are playing a song using chords , but you have to use F major as bar chords. You are not comfortable with bar-chords while playing the song.So you can shift the chord down by using capo.

If you are using capo is first fret so you have to lower  all the cords down by 1.

For example :

For your song you are using

f maj
c maj

now after placing capo in 1st fret
the chords will be

e maj (Which is not a barchord) , and "b maj" (Which is not a bar chord in 1st fret)

.

2.***************

Now if you are using capo in a certain fret.If you want to form the chord without using capo , then higher the chord by the fret numbering.

For example.

I am using the chord " c maj " using capo in 3rd fret.

when I remove capo , the chord will be " c maj " + 3 = d#maj

3.***************

So normally we have to be practiced with bar chords. But if in a complicated song lots of bar-chords are there and it's really difficult to switch between chords at that time it's recommended to use capo.

So don't just only focus on capo.Learn bar chords. And also use capo where needed.

As a guitarist learn everything.

Have a nice guitar learning !

Thank you.
